Shop Small on Saturday, November 25

First there was Black Friday, then came Cyber Monday but have you heard of Small Business Saturday?  Small Business Saturday is a day for everyone – from the business owners who create jobs to the customers who buy locally – to support small businesses that invigorate the economy and keep communities thriving.  American Express started the Shop Small movement in an effort to support these local places that make our communities strong.  They launched Small Business Saturday on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, hoping to help bring more holiday shopping to small businesses.

In Pleasanton, there are over 3,500 small businesses that employ more than 32,000 people collectively.  Supporting these businesses is a critical component of restoring and rebuilding a healthy economy.  Let’s support small businesses by shopping small on November 25.  Pleasanton Downtown Association is hosting an Open House in historic Downtown Pleasanton with free photos with Santa at Museum on Main located at 603 Main Street from 10am – 1pm.  Over 30 downtown merchants will be participating in this all day event by offering special discounts on shopping, dining and services.  Balloons, stickers, shopping bags, pet bandanas, pens and more will be given to lucky customers throughout the day as a thank you for supporting local businesses.

“When we support our local businesses by shopping here in Pleasanton, our sales tax dollars stay in the community.  For every $100 spent, $46 stays here based on an independent retail study conducted a few years ago,” said Lisa Adamos, City of Pleasanton Economic Development Specialist.  Show your support when you shop in Pleasanton on November 25.   Take a selfie at your favorite business, tag the business plus #inPleasantonCA, #downtownpleasanton, #pleasanton and share them with #shopsmallpleasanton.  Let’s make November 25 the Biggest Day of the Year for small businesses in Pleasanton!

Small Business Saturday… #ShopSmall & Support Local Businesses

The City of Pleasanton, Pleasanton Downtown Association, Visit Tri-Valley, Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce and Hacienda, are excited to work together to encourage the Pleasanton community to not only shop in Pleasanton on November 26, Small Business Saturday, but consider shopping “small” to support our local businesses this holiday season and throughout the year.

Numerous organizations have joined the national campaign, founded by American Express in 2010, declaring the Saturday after Thanksgiving every year as Small Business Saturday. Small Business Saturday is a day dedicated to supporting the small businesses that create jobs, boost the economy and preserve neighborhoods around the country during one of the busiest shopping times of the year. In Pleasanton, small businesses having between 1 and 100 employees provide more than 29,000 jobs.

Pleasanton merchants are encouraged to visit shopsmall.com to obtain tools to market their stores. Shoppers are encouraged to visit inPleasanton.com as well as partner organization websites to discover all of Pleasanton’s retail shopping locations, and visit shopsmall.com to find local merchants that have joined the Small Business Saturday campaign by offering special promotions or discounts.

“We look forward to Small Business Saturday. It is traditionally one of our biggest days. It feels like Small Business Saturday is a day on which many of our regular customers express their appreciation and we love hearing that. It’s also a great way to remind people how important small businesses are to our local economy.” – Judy Wheeler, Towne Center Books
